Everything You Need to Know About the Shield of Teeth – Enamel

If you are not cautious towards your enamel there are very high chances of you losing it which is called as Enamel Erosion. The foods that you need to avoid to secure your enamel are -  acidic foods and drinks such as coffee, tea, wine, pickles, sugar candies and many more which you can check out here. Teeth grinding is another reason for erosion. You need to pay attention to the following symptoms in order to detect erosion:

  1. Tooth Sensitivity
  2. Discolored Teeth
  3. Crooked Teeth

The best ingredient or medicine to strengthen tooth enamel is definitely fluoride, but our saliva is very instrumental as well. Saliva is rich in calcium and other minerals and these two are extremely important for strength. You need to understand that enamel cannot repair itself. It isn’t supplied with nerves and tissues, so once the layer gets depleted it cannot be repaired again. But it does not mean that you cannot prevent enamel erosion. Here are few of the tips that you might want to follow:

  1. Reduce or just stop eating acidic foods such as those mentioned above.
  2. Drinking ample of water is always advisable because a dry mouth is also susceptible to enamel erosion.
  3. Chew sugarless chewing gum to generate saliva.
  4. Use a fluoride based toothpaste.
  5. Maintain healthy mouth by regular brushing and flossing.

Consider tooth enamel to be the first face of the teeth. Anything you consume effects it first. Tooth Enamel is translucent and highly vulnerable to stains. So practicing good Oral Hygiene is mandatory to keep it healthy. Now, because it is highly vulnerable to staining, tooth enamel is also the first place where Dental Cavity affects.

Once your tooth gets affected by tooth decay, there is a high chance that you will have to undergo a root canal treatment. So if you want to avert or avoid any sort of treatment, you need to keep your tooth healthy which will ensure that Enamel is also healthy.

There is a perception that the color of the teeth is because of the Enamel but the fact is slightly different. The color of our teeth is because of a bone like structure called as Dentin. This bone like structure is the one that makes up for the major part of the teeth. But both of them are interrelated. If Enamel of the teeth is worn out, it will expose the nerves which are connected by Dentin to the tooth’s surface. This exposure of nerves lead to tooth sensitivity.
