Some time ago, I had problems with my gum. My tooth doctor and her reliable hygienist assistant told me that something had to be done about my gum disease issues. They were quite sober and determined in their explanation of what they felt was a needed treatment. They further explained that what they wanted to do was mentioned to as a ’scaling and root planing’ process. It is also called a SRP. Just listening to the description was pretty scary to me at the time. I didn’t really feel as if this was an experience I wanted to undergo.
The assistant told me exactly how things would go. She intended to dig out tartar that had cumulated inferior to or underneath the place where my gums met my teeth. She also planned to make it tougher for calculus to come back. To achieve this, she would make those areas smooth.
I didn’t like what the assistant was telling me, not even a little bit. She said that she could utilize medication to make my gums go paralyzed, so I didn’t have to worry about anything at all. I was beginning to envisage the pain that would set in when the medication wore off. Yikes! The assistant explained that should I decide not to have this therapy, they couldn’t be held liable for what could happen to my teeth. I needed to signify that I understood that by signing a waiver. Could things get any worse?
As for the request to sign a waiver, it was genuinely hard for me to think of it as anything more than a trick. If I’m honest, I was thinking that I was becoming the dupe of some slick marketing tactics. Then arrived the part that made up my mind. The assistant stated that I should start on this today, instead of having my standard routine cleaning done. The logic she used made sense. The problem was with insurance. Should I get the common, regular cleaning procedure now, insurance might not be willing to pay for the advanced 1 later. But, I felt in my heart, that this was something I would need time to think over before committing to it.
Something inside of me was strongly against this new protocol. That’s why I decided to say “no”. Peculiarly enough, the waiver issue did not come up again. The entire predicament seemed very surreal to me. There had to be some other way for my gums to be healthy again. Some Other part of this was that I knew somebody who had this procedure done. It sounded to me as if she was not glad with the end result.
While I was searching for answers I came across the Hydrofloss Oral Irrigator. I truly needed to escape out of this state of affairs, so it was a relief. I ordered 1 right away.
